Sulfuric acid truck crashes, sending 3 people to the hospital

On Behalf of | Sep 26, 2018 | Personal Injury |

A scary accident in Pennsylvania involved a truck with a load of sulfuric acid, and it ended with multiple people on the way to the hospital.

The accident happened on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, in the westbound lanes. The two vehicles that crashed were between Lebanon-Lancaster and Reading at the time. Reports indicate that the wreck happened right around 6:30 a.m., on Sept. 25, which was a Tuesday.

Pictures show the roadway nearly four hours later, when the lanes were still completely closed down. Numerous emergency vehicles arrived at the scene, including fire trucks, police cars, ambulances and work trucks.

The accident was bad enough that three people had to go to local hospitals to get medical treatment. Some of them were trapped in their vehicles after the collision and had to be freed by the emergency teams. However, the good news is that the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Reports also claim that the truck carrying the sulfuric acid — a highly corrosive substance — did not lose its cargo in the accident. Even without a spill, though, rescue workers had to close down the lanes and take their time safely cleaning up the scene. Sulfuric acid is not something anyone wants to take chances with, especially after an auto accident.

The roads could be more dangerous than you realize. You often do not know what type of cargo is being transported around you, and an accident can lead to serious health risks. If you do get injured, make sure you know if you have a right to financial compensation for medical bills and other costs.
